Terrorism

This article refers to
http://terrorism.about.com/

Have you ever recognized Bali? It is none other than one of the most beautiful place in my beloved country, Indonesia. Indeed it is very sad to recall about the nightmare that haunt Bali in a past few years. Bali Bombing had distorted everything, all the natural resources were gone, and the business was in great mess. I trembled when I heard this bad new at the first time.
Why must this happen to my country? A lot of innocent people died because of this occasion. Individuals, family, and community were shattered. There was only one possible answer for this particular question. The culprit, the root of this entire problem, the terrorist.
Why did these people do such horrible things? Even disrupting their own country. What was the motivation behind the scene? I don’t think that these kinds of actions were actually beneficial to them.
I indeed feel sad when I heard these kinds of things, riots, clashes, and terrorism. I can not understand, the ways these people think, and I always can not find the logical reason behind the action.
Many people said, these people are crazy, they are abnormal. Some of the people even think that they were possessed by certain evil spirit in doing their action, but I think the religion is one of the major factors that causing these actions. I am not saying certain religions are wrong, they actually teach the right things. What I am trying to say is the way the speaker of this religion distributed was rather brainwashing and corrupted.
These speakers are actually potential leaders, but jus they are not in the right way. These people are capable to influence people to the large extent to follow their ways. Of course, not all of these religion leaders are as bad as what we thought.
The terrorists themselves witnessed that they did these non-sense actions for the sake of religion. I really can not stand this kind of reason. They kill a lot of innocent people for the sake of religion? They must be joking. I have never recognized the existence of one religion that allows its follower to take other people’s life for the sake of God.
Then if religion can not be blamed, who is likely to be? The provocateurs are the one. The terrorists who did the suicide bomb or other harmful action were actually good in nature, until they are spoilt by provocateurs. I am very glad to hear that the brains of terrorism in Indonesia were captured. In order to eradicate terrorism, I strongly encouraged the officers and authority to keep up the good works….

Youth Problem Gambling

This article refers to
http://www.fargoga.org/facts/youth.htm

Gambling is very popular words among all of us in this world, regardless of age, race, and gender. All of us know that gambling is something to be eradicated, because it is considered as very bad behaviors, but why all of us are so interested in Gambling. Why the people find it enjoyable and exciting? Human greed and lack of satisfactions are most likely to be the answers/
The fact that we are facing now is bitter. Most of our peers are involved in this dirty game. Of course, most of our parents especially they, who care about us, look gambling as a disgusting game. No wonder if you are looking at its negative consequences, you will know exactly, how evil the gambling is.
Most of the gambling fact are displaying that the gambler has very low self-esteem, because of that, they have very poor quality of relationship, moreover the fact states that young gambler win the most if their gambling in very early time and it has relatively big prizes. That is why most of our peers can not escape from gambling, because they are satisfied by early winning, then it makes them feel that they can win some more. These very destructive repeated behaviors lead to the next level of gambling.
Most of us will think that money is the main factor of this problem, but it is actually not, the research’s result said that the loneliness and depression is this factor. I am very sad to say that our friends are going to the wrong way. They are doing gambling most likely to wipe out their depression and difficulties. They feel as in gambling, their problem is solved. But it is wrong they just use it like opium, to feel the emptiness in their heart. What they are actually needed is caring.
Our friends seem to be desperate by gambling, they think they have no talents and, they just run to gamble. Because he thinks the only way he can win, the only way he can do is gambling. It spoils their mind and talents. They just want to feel the pleasure of winning, because they believe that they will not win in the other field.
Does this cause destructive impacts? Of course it does. Look at the most gambler, they are likely to be the most potential group to commit crime. Moreover for young gambler, it will drag down the school performances; even it will destroy your school life and daily life. Many things have been sacrificed to maintain this evil. What is the point; let us just wipe it out of our lives.
Unfortunately, this behavior has become a part of our cultures. Just in case of some countries like Canada, where the gambling is legal, it is a sad fact that children are accustomed to purchase lottery tickets and play bingo. The country is making an unwise decision to establish this poison of the youth.

Drinking Age

This comment refers to http://www2.potsdam.edu/hansondj/YouthIssues/1131639358.html

Everyone must have heard about it, everyone must have known about it. It is dangerous and obvious, it is ALCOHOL. Alcohol is begun to be established long time ago, and the law only permit the adult people to consume it, they strictly prohibited the underage to consume it. But the fact is the underage drinking is not a big deal in society, the main problem is over-consumption which leads to unhealthy relationship.

The standard of consuming alcohol for some countries is 16 to 18; some countries may have lower standard age for it. But from my view, I am totally disagreeing of the alcohol usage. I infer that the troublesome countries that has alcoholic problem are mostly states that establish the law of drinking

The trend of the alcoholic usage is applied in the family and daily live, the sad things is, most of the parents in the alcohol-legal country give their child, a wine, moreover they gave their children wine, almost after every meals. I think this bad habit was the root of all alcoholic problems. The very young children are accustomed to consume it just like drinking soft drinks. As the result most of the children do not know, the fatal effect of the alcohol. They just accept alcohol as the part of their tradition.

It is unbelievable in Europe that most of the countries are allowing the people to drive while they have been consuming alcohol. Some of the people said that because of this, the European is more capable of motor skill. Do not misperception, alcohol, do not make the people to have better motor skill, in fact the alcohol should be blamed for so many fatal road accident.

Actually, the temptation of using alcohol were lies on the wrong way of education, the alcoholics were only painted as a bad person, Of course, there are some rebellious students, who have perception that drinking alcohol is cool or good. Why should we stay away from that pleasure?

They tend to see that to consume alcohol is great and it is a pride to do it. In order to stop the trends, basically we must teach our children the proper way of using alcohol. We need to reduce and to eradicate the alcohol consumption as evil. It is just like parents that teach the children about sex in very proper manner.

Lastly we need to re-evaluate ourselves to make wise decision about what is allowed and not allowed to be drunk as well as the other decision, not only about this alcoholic issue.

Wise and careful movement will lead to successful future.

Inside Indonesia

This comment refers to
www.insideindonesia.org

Throughout history, Indonesian women’s movement has been limited. In the past, Indonesian women had no freedom in most of educational programs and technology development. Their daily life was only on housekeeping, this seems to be unfair for them, whereas the men were keeping in progress.

I felt a pity to the past women, beside the noble and rich women, most of the ordinary women were considered as “tools”. “3R” was the most popular abbreviation at that time in my hometown. It stood for “sumur, dapur, kasur” which meant well, kitchen, bed respectively.

It meant women were only used as a servant to pick water from the ‘well’, they were treated as servants to work in ‘kitchen’, and they were only used as tools to satisfy men’s desire in sex relationships.

Nowadays, women have broken their old stereotypes; they are now one step further than before. I must be thankful and appreciate to Kartini, the hero and the pioneer that struggled for women’s right; she was the greatest aspiration for women. She struggled until her end, to lift the women’s value.

Women became advanced, it is proved by so many women’s organizations, and women have contributed their voices and persisted to their principle. And I can say that most of women in Indonesia start to pass over the men, for example Megawati, the first Indonesian’s woman president, and also women start to work in men’s area, and most of top class students are girls.

I assume the fastest development women was in Soekarno’s era (longest-term president), because I saw a big concentration of women’s organization rising that time. Then they evolved much better nowadays, even they played important role in “malestream”

The strengths of women were also reflected when Soekarno collapsed, the organizations stood still and keep in progress, that was a good thing. In era of new order, I was impressed with some organizations such as, “Gerwani” and “Dharma Wanita”. Their willing to set forward protests about politics of marriage, and religions was very thick; though some of them were assassinated and be tortured, they stood up to hold their principles.

Now, the government fully acknowledges the freedom of women, it was the sweetest fruit from women’s effort. Ministry of empowerment of women was created. But I think their wars haven’t reached the end. Diversity between indigenous women and Chinese one is their last enemy, that now they still fight with. However they are now facing their new freedom with a mixture of exhilaration and trepidation.

My 1st Comment to Article

This comment refers to http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/internet/02/21/cyberbullying.ap/index.html

As technology grows faster, our life become easier, we tend to use our facilities maximally. In good way, we can double our work. In the other way, it might be abused, and sometimes it is harmful. This journal refers to tragic story of a boy named Ryan Patrick Halligan.

Ryan Patrick Halligan is 13-years old teenager from Rhode Island. What is so mysterious about this boy? The reason why he committed suicide (police still trace the true reason instead of his sensitive heart).

As the change of technology, it is also affect the chance of technique doing wicked things. Fist fighting, class taunt, all of these are old fashioned. Now we tend to use our computer to bully others. It is a sad thing in the growth of technology.

His terror started when his friends sent him e-mails and instant message, that contain a tease about his manner (rumor said that this person is a gay). My opinion is this person might have mental problem, oversensitive, I can not fully blame his friends that cyber-bullying (cyber-bullying is simply bully other via electronic media, such as internet) him, he shouldn’t take it so seriously. But still cyber-bullying is bad; it is so because as you see, he died because of this ridiculous thing.

Cyber-bullying often insult people by his physical’s appearance, fashion, friend, or sexuality. What an unpleasant thing, they humiliate innocent people behind the advancement of technology.

There was also another quite serious thing happened in New York. Two schoolboys listed about ‘sexual secrets’. Unfortunately the prosecutor decided not to charge them because of free-speech concern. But if you think carefully, how come this nasty conversation is included in Free-Speech right. Does it make sense?

Of course not, then this case motivated the speaker, John Tassoni introduced a bill of cyber-bullying, and hope that his idea would be published as a law to judge cyber-bullying. But he did not think that publishing this law would be effective, I quoted his wise statement, “You can't legislate norms, but you can only teach norms”. I am fully agreed with his statement; actually we do not need law as if the society understands the importance of norms.

I prefer the decision of some local schools in South Carolina rather than some schools which are waiting for law to make decision. This some local schools allowed the Oregon (powerful lawmaker) to withdraw cyber-bullies’ privilege in school. I agree with them because I think we must solve this problem as fast as possible to prevent another tragic case to happen.

Patricia McCormick, assistant principal of St. Philip School, has contributed her brilliant idea. I think this solution will help us in much; this is the best way to stop cyber-bullying. Just like expression “preventing is better than curing”, understanding is better than punishing. She taught the students the internet’s safety, including cyber-bullying. Therefore, parents play a big role to stop this problem totally.
